The STAR sensor provides a small high precision, low inertia angular position encoder which can be fitted to an actuator gearbox or directly to the actuated mechanism. In either case it is attached to the rotating output shaft of the actuator or actuated system.
Depending upon the application the STAR sensor will employ either inductive or optical technology to provide absolute angular position encoding. Both technologies offer 12bit resolution over a working range of 120degrees, although this can be extended to 180degrees with a facility to set a zero datum point anywhere within the working range.
STAR inductive technology option offers the possibility of operation in high temperature environments given the electronics can be sited remotely.
